We have invited Lok & Andi, brand designers, to talk about their mix and match preferences and how they see denim. Let’s have them in their own Lee workwear styles and really reimagine the legendary icons.

LEE DESIGNER Q&A

Q1: What is your favourite item in FW22 Reimagined Denim Collection?

Lok: Every single piece of this collection is iconic. If I really need to pick one, it would be the Dungarees. It’s where Lee started as a workwear manufacturing company for workers producing dungarees.

Andi: My favourite item in FW22 reimagined denim collection is the dungaree dress.

Q2: The best way to style your favourite item?

Lok: I would go for layering: a plain white tee to go with the dungarees, add an open collar shirt or shirt collar jacket on top and put on a pair of sneakers / leather shoes to finish the look.

Andi: I would just match with a plain white tee and embrace in comfort flats to give a 1990s throwback.

Q3: What is the best occasion for Lee workwear?

Lok: Workwear can indeed be a very cool casual wear if you style it right, no matter it’s for work or just a casual HH. My favorite occasion among all is during skateboarding. A lot of skaters wear workwear such as dungaree, workwear pants, jacket to express their personalities.

Andi: Various occasions call for various kinds of workwear. For me, a pair of workwear style dungarees can be a day-to-day wear. For time restricted mornings where quick decisions are needed, dungarees are easy to style.

Q4: What is best (item/way) to go with Lee jeans?

Lok: I like mix & match style, like a baseball cap matching with loose fit blazer and sneakers to create a Japanese City Boy look.

Andi: My favourite item to match with Lee jeans are simple plain tees. I don’t need to over accessorize as jeans are a style statement on their own. Less is more, I just go with the minimal for the best look.

Q5: Why do you love denim so much?

Lok: Denim represents a culture from the worker era to the cowboy culture. All the design details are based on the real needs of those workers and cowboys. Wearing denim always reminds me of those interesting stories behind and that’s why I love denim so much.

Andi: Denim fulfils all my fashion preferences: casual and cosy. I wear what I'm comfortable in and what makes me feel good. I also look for clothing that isn't overly trendy.

Q6: What is the trend for jeans in 2022?

Lok: Loose fit or boot cut jeans are popular recently and it will continue in 2022.

Andi: I see 90’s rave culture in 2022, vintage-inspired silhouette sits higher at the waist with an easy, relaxed top block, voluminous leg shape. And also the low-rise baggy/ relaxed fit comes strongly with a nod to Y2K.

Q7: How often do you wash your jeans?

Lok: I usually wash once every few years unless there’s stain or sweat on them. I will use antibacterial fabric spray and hang the jeans up to air dry every time after I wear them to keep clean.

Andi: I wash them roughly after 5 wears, but still quite depends on the weather and occasion.

Q8: New or vintage? Or mix?

Lok: I preferred vintage when I was young as those distressed jeans or the whiskers tell a story. However, I would like to create my own story from a brand-new jeans now I am growing older.

Andi: New, for most of the time. But I’m considering buying a pre-owned one in the future as they are less stiff and more comfortable. Most importantly, the environmental benefits of buying second-hand clothes, particularly vintage jeans, are wide and varied.
